Do your friends tell you that you are a great listener? Do you want to learn about the needs of this community and the resources it has to offer? Do you have 4 hours a week to volunteer to...
Volunteering
"It's very satisfying to know that in some small way I make a difference in the lives of the people that call the Hotline. It makes me thankful for the blessing I have." -- Sarah
Our Philosophy
At Concern Hotline, we believe that in situations of confusion, uncertainty, stress, or crisis, people feel better and can think more clearly if they can talk to someone. And while many people have others to turn to – family or friends – they may not feel comfortable sharing their problems with them because they are embarrassed or ashamed, find face-to-face confrontation too difficult, or simply don’t want to burden the person with their problems.
Profile of a Volunteer
A caring, compassionate, and patient person. Simple as that! We’ll teach you the rest – how to handle different types of calls, how to quickly pinpoint a caller’s needs, and how to direct callers to a resource in the community.
Work From Your Home
Hotline calls are dispatched to our volunteers through an Answering Service, so you can take your calls from home. All you need is a quiet space and a Sourcebook, and you’re ready to
help people in need of a listening ear.
"I have been a Board member and Hotline listener for over 15 years. Although volunteering has not monetary reward, it certainly rewards one's heart, soul and well-being knowing that you are helping your fellow man. I know for a fact that I did save a suicidal caller's life by being on the Hotline, and I also know that I have given comfort to many other callers." -- Mary Touhey
Other Volunteer Opportunities
We have many other volunteer opportunities for people who want to support our program but don't want to work the hotline. These projects can be done at home or in our office.
- Historian - Concern has served this community for 40 years. We are looking for a volunteer to help us chronicle our organization's history in a scrapbook or other visual media.
- Data entry - Our listeners log important information about every call we take, and we are looking for someone to enter that information into our web-based database.
