August 2008
National Immunization Awareness Month

During August, Concern Hotline is busy getting ready for yearly fundraisers like the Annual Friday Fish Fry. But August is also the month where many people take vacations to get out of sweaty office buildings; college students return to campus; and parents and children enjoy the last moments of summer while preparations for the upcoming school year are made.

For the medical field August is a time to remind the community to get their vaccinations for the upcoming school and flu seasons during National Immunization Awareness Month. The month provides the opportunity to remind us all of the importance of immunizations which have been responsible for stopping the outbreak of diseases that are highly contagious and could wipe out the population very quickly. Vaccines are important for individuals of every age in order to protect people from getting diseases throughout the stages of their lives.

Schools at all levels require that students have certain immunizations, depending on age level, before school starts. It is recommended that all children and the elderly receive the flu vaccine yearly. Medical professionals provide charts and lists so that it is easier to understand the schedule that should be followed. Please contact your family physician, a local clinic, or the hospital for more information on making our population happier and healthier.

Having our community vaccinated against the diseases we can control puts us all in safer conditions.

Get vaccinated!
